Hmmmm what happened last week…
- Our AC was struggling last week, so our apartment was a little humid and hot until Saturday, which was unpleasant. Maintenance had come by a couple of times with no luck, so I finally had to put my assertive hat on on Saturday and call the office. It turns out a filter somewhere was clogged, and they fixed it!
- I noticed last Friday that the transit station near me had taped a fake hawk statue to one of the signs lol, I guess because they had a bird problem in the station. Just odd and memorable.
- On my “stop giving money to corporations and start giving it to people on the internet” quest: I cancelled my subscription to Apple Music and started buying my favorites from Quboz (the first digital music retailer I could find that wasn’t one of the typical ones) and Bandcamp. I’ve had a hard time giving up music streaming in the past because it’s convenient and fun, but honestly I just listen to the same songs on repeat for days at a time, so it would be better for me to just… buy those songs to support the artists, and then rely on other methods to discover new music! The difficult part (so far) is getting the music onto my phone.
- Spent a lot of time with friends this weekend! I’m going to be playing a TTRPG again for the first time in YEARS—I haven’t played since early COVID—and my friends helped me finish planning my character. We’re going to be playing the Dishonored TTRPG and my character is a weirdo natural philosopher who loves researching whales.
- I finally had to DNF the Witch Hat Atelier anime, for now at least. It can’t compare with the manga! The art and paneling in the manga is so good it’s borderline unadaptable. I did read WHA for the first time pretty recently though, so maybe I was just bored seeing the anime so soon after reading it.
- I only have one Art Fight attack so far ^^’ I think it’s going to be a slow year for me. I’m working on a revenge right now (an art attack @ someone who already attacked me, for anyone who doesn’t participate)!
- I missed SGDQ :( but my girlfriend and I watched the Balatro speedrun from SGDQ after dinner today. It was basically her World Cup
- I’m kind of curious about these tilde sites (tilde.club, tilde.town, tilde.green) and then I think melonland is similar? If you happen to come across my blog and already know what these communities are like, feel free to reach out bc I’d love to know more! I’m also going to do some reading on these when I have time.
Wow more happened than I thought! Or maybe I just remembered more things.
I made some small changes to the website this week too, but nothing
big enough to necessitate a #meta tag on this. I updated the footer to
include a sitemap instead of the “last
updated” date, and then I moved the “last updated” date to the site info and credits page, which is now at the URL
/meta, because I thought that was more concise. Sometime
soon, I think I’m going to move my “Recent Posts” container to the home
page.

The idea that we expect too much from our life partners, which is touched on later in the story, is something I’ve heard before about modern dating and marriage, and it’s really true.

- (Content warnings for both of these at the top of the articles) In the summer 2026 anime season I’ve been intrigued by Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia and Chainsmoker Cat. “Chainsmoker Cat is the artistic equivalent of trying something on a dare and almost throwing up…then finding yourself going back for another taste.” I’m so disgusted. And yet. (I haven’t watched either yet, planning to this week!)
- Kamome Shirahama (WHA mangaka) and Dana Terrace (The Owl House, Knights of Guinevere) had a Q&A together at Kodansha House that sounded pretty cool (sometimes I really envy people who live in LA or close to it lol). They both said that they sometimes struggle to remember spells and sigils in their respective magic systems, and they agreed that, with regard to storytelling, it’s important to find “a single emotion” as a throughline that can carry the story and make it relatable to viewers. This came up after Shirahama said she’s trying to decide between two options for the ending to WHA. Shirahama was also wearing the mask of her antagonist Iguin, presumably for privacy. I like her, she’s interesting.
